PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reading device mounted with a color separating filter using a single layer of inorganic material and an image reading method, wherein a color shift hardly occurs in the periphery of a read image. SOLUTION: A microcomputer 405 outputs correction data so as to let a shading correction circuit 406 correct digital image signals. The shading correction circuit 406 corrects the digital imaging signals for shading using the correction data outputted from the microcomputer 405. A YC processing circuit 407 generates image signals from the digital imaging signals corrected for shading, subjects the image signals to processing, such as gamma correction etc, and outputs the processed image signals.
