PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To continuously read image information on each of variously sized documents comprised of a plurality of documents mixed with documents of different sizes by preventing unnecessary image information out of a document range from being read with respect to small-sized documents. SOLUTION: A document size sensor 7 is disposed at a position eccentric to the front side in a main scan direction orthogonal to a document feeding direction between a document tray 1 and a joint position P2 on a document feeding path H1. The document size sensor 7 is disposed in the main scan direction between the end D2A on the front side of a B-4 sized document D2 and the end D3A on the front side of an A4-sized document D3. The document size sensor 7 detects A3-sized and B4-sized documents but does not detect A4-sized and B5-sized documents. Based on a detection signal of the document size sensor 7, it can be discriminated whether a document fed from the document tray 2 is a large-sized document or a small-sized document.
