PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a portable terminal in which communication can be made between portable terminals by providing a communication line when the terminals exist within a serviceable range without requiring any processing of communication line at the wireless base station equipment. SOLUTION: A portable terminal A performs line connection via a wireless base station, compares the area IDs between portable terminals A and B and if they coincide with each other, makes a change from circuit connection to individual connection not through the wireless base station equipment (direct connection between the portable terminals A and B). The portable terminal A opens a speech circuit via the wireless base station, makes a decision whether direct circuit connection with the telephone conversation partner is possible or not based on the fact whether the area unique ID of the partner matches the area unique ID stored in its own device or not. If both area unique IDs coincide, a decision is made that "the telephone conversation partner is located in an area capable of direct telephone conversation not through the wireless base station equipment" and takes the procedure for providing an individual connection circuit with the telephone conversation partner.
