PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a refrigerator capable of achieving a necessary heating value and having a defrosting heater of high safety. SOLUTION: In this refrigerator comprising the defrosting heater 20 for melting frost attached to a cooler, the defrosting heater 20 is formed by placing a heating element 37 inside of a glass tube 21, and connection fittings 43 for connecting both end portions of the heating element 37 and an external lead wire 41 are mounted on both end portions in the glass tube 21. As a length W1 in the axial direction of the glass tube 21, of rubber plugs 39 sealing opening portions at both ends of the glass tube 21 is shortened, and a heater wire 37 can be elongated by that much, heat generating density of the heater wire 37 is lowered, and a surface temperature of the glass tube 21 can be lowered.
