PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a metal member for an image display device capable of achieving a longer discharge distance, and to provide a manufacturing method thereof. SOLUTION: The metal member for an image display device comprises a metal material, in which a cell space corresponding to a pixel is formed, with a bridge body formed in the cell space. In a first manufacturing method for this metal member for an image display device, a primary half etching is performed to form cell holes in the surface of the material of the metal member, except the region that serves as the bridge body and a region that serves as a barrier rib, and then an etching hole communicating with the cell holes formed on both sides of the region that serves as the bridge body by the primary half etching is formed, by performing a secondary half etching from a surface that is opposite to the direction in which the cell holes have been formed, thereby forming the cell space.
