PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recording and reproducing device which can efficiently confirm a joint of edited moving picture data with a simple operation. SOLUTION: The recording and reproducing device is provided with; a connectable display means 101, which arranges at least a prescribed plurality of selected thumbnail images and prescribed areas indicating intervals between the selected thumbnail images and simultaneously displays them in order by which the cuts of the selected thumbnail images selected as the selection objects are reproduced among a plurality of thumbnail images which are generated and stored for each cut, the thumbnail images indicating a part of the contents of the cuts which are a series of moving pictures which can be editing objects; and a control means 102 which successively reproduces the prescribed end parts of the cuts to be reproduced earlier and the prescibed head parts of the cuts to be reproduced later, among the cuts of the selected thumbnail images interposing indicated prescribed areas when the prescribed areas between the selected thumbnail images displayed by the display means are indicated.
