PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To increase capacity being recordable in one side of recording medium during recording operation of data for the one side of recording medium in a data recording apparatus in which a plurality of recording media can be dealt as a recording medium recording data. SOLUTION: In a data recording and reproducing apparatus 1, a radio wave received by an antenna 5 or data inputted from the outside through a video input terminal 23 is converted into digital data by an A/D converter part 21, and recorded in a hard disk in a hard disk drive 31. Whenever data of one sheet DVD is recorded in the hard disk in the hard disk drive 31, its state is displayed in an output part 200. And when an instruction for copying data for a DVD 100 is operated for a remote controller 60, data of capacity of one sheet DVD is copied to the DVD 100 in data recorded in the hard disk.
