PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a press apparatus which can carry out highly precise press working by surely correcting the tilting of a movable plate or a slide plate owing to an eccentric load. SOLUTION: Nuts 27, 29 are screwed on screw shafts 19, 20, and are connected to the movable plate 13 so as to turn in a horizontal plane. Sprocket wheels 31, 33 are fixed to the nuts 27, 29. A chain 42 is wound around the respective sprocket wheels 31, 33 and respective toothed idler wheels 38 to 41 without a slack. The respective nuts 27, 29 rotate with the vertical movement of the movable plate 13 in the same direction by the same rotational angle. When the right and left end portions of the movable plate 13 have tilted owing to the eccentric load, the rotational angles of the nuts 27, 29 become different from each other. Then, the tensional force corresponding to the difference of the rotational angles is generated in the chain 42. As a result, the rotations of the respective nuts 27, 29 are regulated such that the rotational angles of the respective nuts 27, 29 become equal with each other. As a result, the rotational angles of the respective nuts 27, 29 become equal with each other, and the tilting of the right and left end portions of the movable plate 13 can be corrected.
