1328924 Aldolization BADISCHE ANILIN- & SODA-FABRIK AG 19 April 1971 [28 Jan 1970] 20474/71 Heading C2C [Also in Division C6] Isobutyraldehyde and glyoxal are reacted in the presence of a tertiary amine to give aldolization products comprising: 2,2-dimethyl-3- hydroxysuccindialdehyde (I); 2-hydroxy-3,3- dimethyl-4-oxotetrahydrofuran (II), and 3- isopropyl - 7 - hydroxy - 8,8 - dimethyl - 2,4,6- trioxabicyclo[3,3,0]octane (III). I and II are claimed per se. Suitable amines include mono- and poly-amines and ion exchangers containing tertiary amino groups. Water may be present, optionally with solubilizing solvents. II may be obtained by treating I with a tertiary amine. I and II are stated to be active against houseflies and II and III against aspergillus, while I is also stated to have tanning activity. |
