1352394 Aircraft fuel tanks VEREINIGTE FLUGTECHNISCHE WERKE-FOKKER GmbH 19 April 1971 [30 Jan 1970] 20668/71 Heading B7W The position of the centre of gravity S of fuel in groups 1, 2 of tanks arranged on opposite sides of the aircraft centre of gravity is maintained within predetermined limits by means of a regulator 25 which controls the supply and removal of fuel in response to signals from tank content level measuring probes 3 mounted in each tank. Fuel is supplied to the tanks via valves 7, 8 from connections 9 (ground) or 9a (in flight) and removed by pumps 10, 11 which are connected to an hydraulic system via valves 19, 20. Deviation of S causes probes 3 to deliver differing signals to a Wheatstone bridge 33 incorporated in the regulator 25; an output signal is produced whose polarity depends on the direction of movement of S, and this causes a motor 36 to rotate a cam-shaft 37 and hence after the setting of one of two switches 28, 29. A switch 32 is closed during filling of the tanks from 9 or 9a, thus allowing the regulator signal to close one of valves 7, 8 until S has been brought back within its admissible limits; switch 32 is open while fuel is being supplied via pumps 10, 11 to the engines, so that now one of the valves 19, 20 can be actuated to reduce the speed of its corresponding pump so that it participates only partly (or not at all) in the total fuel delivery until the deviation of S is cancelled. |
