A current-field image signal is applied to a plurality of low-pass filters, which are connected in parallel with one another and have different characteristics, and then outputs from the low-pass filters are combined to produce an expanded image signal including a pseudo-afterglow signal. The current-field image and expanded image signals are combined such that the pseudo-afterglow signal is added only to a desired portion.
