A method and apparatus for controlling a hard disc drive are provided. The method comprises the steps of (a) receiving a write instruction and sensing a temperature around the hard disc drive, (b) enabling a write verify function when the above sensed temperature is below a threshold temperature and recording data on a data sector, (c) reading the above recorded data and detecting a recording error, and (d) recording data on a reserved sector when the recording error is detected in the above step (c). When the recording error is detected while recording data on a magnetic disc in a low temperature mode, then a cycle of recording, reproducing, and error detecting is repeated several times. Since a sector is reassigned, if an error is detected, and the data is recorded on that reassigned sector, recording and reproducing of the data can be carried out more reliably. |
