The chain extends around a first chain wheel coaxial with and driving the wheel and a second chain wheel with an axle rotatably mounted in a cylindrical bracket (20) screwed into a cylindrical bracket sleeve inside a cylindrical cavity in the bicycle frame. A bracket (24) for securing a chain guard is clamped between a flange (25) on the bracket and the bracket sleeve.
