A safety device and assembly is provided for a bowling ball return mechanism, the return mechanism being operable for moving a bowling ball from a return track to a rack portion 12. In one embodiment, an array of sensors 60 are mounted in a housing 50 for retrofitting to the rack 12. The sensors 60 are arranged for detecting movement of an object, e.g. a user's hand, through the open end of the housing 50. The sensors 60 communicate with a motor drive for the ball return mechanism, for interrupting subsequent operation of the ball return mechanism, if such movement is detected. The sensors can be unidirectional. Alternatively, a ball sensor may be provided for negating a signal from the sensors 60, to prevent interruption of the ball return mechanism during normal use. |
