Organoleptic cpd. which is used in perfumery inds. of formula: (CH3)2C = CH-CO-C(CH3)2-CH=CH2, is produced by oxidising an alcohol of formula: (CH3)2C(OH)1-n--CH--CH(OH)n-C(CH3)2-CH=CH2 (where one of the broken lines indicates a double bond, and n is 0 or 1), with a salt or another O-contg. cpd. of a metal, e.g. Ag, Cr, Mn or Ni, or a ketone in the presence of an aluminium alkylate.
