A pneumatic tyre (10) having a reinforced bead structure (15), wherein at least one flipper (17) is provided to at least parcially envolope the respective annular reinforing element (14) and bead fillter (16). The flipper comprises a plurality of mutually substantially parallel elongated reinforcing elements which comprises at least one preformed threadlike metallic element having a diameter in the range of from 0.25 mm. The resulting tyre has improved durability,especially at high speed and/or extreme driving conditions, combined with exellemt handling and ride comfort characteristics.
