Gear shift lever for motor vehicle gearbox

The gear change lever has a knob (1) at the top with a diagram of the gear layout (4) near the forward end of the top surface of the knob. There is a field of buttons (2) for performing various functions on top of the gear knob immediately behind the gear layout display. A miniature roller blind (3) extends down the rear surface of the knob and can be moved forward to cover and protect the buttons.
