[Also in Division F2] A marine bearing comprises segments 29, Fig. 2, of elastomeric material which are mounted in a split housing 10 having upper and lower parts 18 and 17. The latter are clamped together by means of screws 22 at their respective nuts 27, springs 28 being provided on the screws so that, in releasing the nuts the upper and lower parts 18 and 17 are forced apart and thus facilitate the replacement of the segments 29. The segments are made over-size so that the clamping compresses them to the required size which consequently provides the necessary clearance with a shaft 11 mounted therein and causes the external peripheries of the segments to grip the respective parts 18 or 17. The segments are provided with lubricating passages 39, are retained axially by end-plates 42, and may be formed with an inner layer of relatively soft rubber and an outer layer of relatively hard rubber. Struts 16 are integrally formed on the lower parts 17 and serve to attach the bearing assembly to a ship. In a modification the housing comprises a tubular member 61, Fig. 6, which receives elements 66 therein with radial clearance. The elements are compressed by means of a ring assembly 71 which comprises ring sectors 72, 73 and screws 77.
