1,181,032. Heart valve. H. W. CHOMIE. 20 Feb., 1968 [19 May, 1967], No. 8140/68. Heading A5R. A prosthetic heart valve comprises a metal ring I having a channel 2 on one side with a plurality of slots on its outer edge 3, a plurality of prongs 5 on the other side of the ring and a coating 4 of unvulcanized, rubberlike material, e.g. silicone rubber, on the inner edge forming the valve seating. The cage supporting the valve member 21 is formed from plastics-coated wire 11/16 held within the channel 2 by bending over the slots in the outer edge and projecting outwardly from the ring. A suturing ring 9 is supported around the periphery of the metal ring by the prongs 5, which pass through the material of the suturing ring and are bent inwardly towards the body of the metal ring, and the whole of the suturing ring and the metal ring are covered by a fabric layer 7, e.g. of "Dacron" (Trade Mark). The method of assembly, including the fitting of the covering, is described. |
