Compound (B) when R<SP>1</SP> is hydrogen may be prepared by heating the corresponding compound (A) with an alcohol ROH. Pharmaceutical compositions of the compounds (A) or (B) with the usual excipients may be used for prevention and treatment of damage due to ionizing radiation and may be administered orally, parenterally, rectally or topically. |
