Process for chemical treatment of wood or wood products before painting varnishing, staining, bonding etc. comprises opening the pores of the wood and also loosening the rest of the wood by formation of new pores and cavities, by means of chemical modification. The chemical modification increases the porosity of the wood, thus facilitating subsequent penetration by improving agents, such as paints or monomers. The process is easily carried out, and relatively cheap. Wood products of improved quality are obtained after the treatment.
