PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a novel and useful latch device allowed to effectively function by inserting in a slight clearance if the clearance is present between a top plate support body as a structural body and a top plate as a movable body. SOLUTION: Latch housings 40x and 40y are interposed in the clearance present between the top plate support body 1 and the top plate 2 slidably supported on the top plate support body 1. Latch members 41, 42, and 43 stored in the thickness area of the latch housing 40x and projected from the inside of the thickness area only when the top plate 2 is locked to the top plate support body 1, a latch releasing lever 45 stored in the thickness area of the latch housings 40x and 40y and operable in the thickness area, and a transmission member 44 stored in the thickness area of the latch housings 40x and 40y and transmitting the lever operating force of the latch releasing lever 45 to the latch members 41, 42, and 43 are incorporated in the latch housings 40x and 40y.
