PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make the shortening of the cycle time optimal by optimizing the rotational speed of the drive motor when cutting the thread. SOLUTION: The sewing machine 10 which has a cutting mechanism 40 for cutting the thread, a fabric pressing mechanism 20 for lifting the fabric presser 21 and a single pulse motor 13 for driving both the mechanisms is provided with the ROM 93 for storing a plurality of rotational speed pattern data 93c for regulating the rotational speed of the pulse motor when cutting the thread at least with the cutting mechanism, a rotational speed pattern selection means (for example, CPU91) which selects the rotational speed pattern data for generating the drive torque large enough to get at least the thread cut down from the ROM based on the size of the thread corresponding to the drive voltage of a solenoid 81 for driving the thread tension mechanism 80 inputted from a controller 98 and a drive control means (for example, CPU 91) which controls the rotary drive of the pulse motor based on the rotational speed pattern data selected.
