<p>The inlet or exhaust cams operated by a crankshaft via a toothed chain or belt experience an angular displacement or phase shift via an adjustable chain or belt tensioner in such a way that on the tension side of the chain or belt a reference pinion or reference belt pulley or roller is geometrically adjusted so that the length of the chain or belt under tension on the load side is changed. The chain or belt is thereby kept under a defined or suitable pretensioning on the side opposite the load side by a suitable mechanism.</p> |
