<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect a moving object in front of a vehicle. <P>SOLUTION: A controller 106 performs image processing on an image of the front side of its own vehicle captured by a camera 101, calculates image speed information of respective pixels, and extracts pixels having speed information toward the estimated advance direction of the own vehicle based on the calculated image speed information of the respective pixels. Based on distribution of the extracted pixels, an object lower end position serving as a lower end of an area, in which the object exists, on the image and an object upper end position serving as an upper end of the area, in which the object exists, on the image are detected. Based on the object lower end position and the object upper end position, an area for presence of a moving object approaching the estimated advance direction of the own vehicle is detected on the image. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
