<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize a high luminance light emitting diode in which efficiency for taking out light subjected to wavelength conversion by phosphor can be enhanced and the volume and surface area of phosphor can be increased. <P>SOLUTION: In the light emitting diode 10, an LED chip 14 is connected and secured onto a substrate 12 composed of an insulating material, one electrode of the LED chip 14 is connected with one external electrode 16a, the other electrode of the LED chip 14 is connected with the other external electrode 16a, the LED chip 14 is surrounded by a tubular nonwoven fabric 22, phosphor 20 is carried on the surface of fibers 24 composing the nonwoven fabric 22, the LED chip 14 and the nonwoven fabric 22 are surrounded by a frame member 28, and the LED chip 14 is sealed with a translucent lid member 30 formed by filling the interior of the frame member 28 with a translucent material. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
