PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface plasmon resonance sensor probe capable of detecting a micro change of refractive index by curving completely an optical fiber or by folding back at 180°of angle, and a method for manufacturing the surface plasmon resonance sensor probe. SOLUTION: This surface plasmon resonance sensor probe is provided with a curved part with a U-shapedly bent intermediate portion of the the optical fiber comprising a core and a clad, and a metal thin film layer comprising conductive metal to cover a core surface exposed by removing the clad in the curved part, and the refractive index of light propagated inside the core of the optical fiber is varied with actions of an evanescent wave and surface plasmon by forming the surface plasmon resonance sensor probe, to be output from the other end of the optical fiber as a change of emission light intensity. The maximum resonance wavelength where the emission light intensity is most attenuated is obtained to specify a measured sample. COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
