PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect switching of a plurality of sets of document more easily. SOLUTION: When a plurality of sets of document having an image formed on one side are read out, plurality of sets of document 341, 342 and 343 are stacked in a document tray 33 while reversing each set alternately. Switching of each set of document is detected in response to detection of reversal of the document by reading the image of the plurality of sets of document in the document tray 33 sequentially and by detecting the front and rear of these documents.
