The present invention provides methods which are useful to aid in smoking cessation. The methods of the invention generally comprise applying an electrical current to the subject in the vicinity of two or more acupuncture points selected from acupuncture points in or on the arms and hands of the subject. Suitable points include the Hegu acupuncture point (LI-4), a point on the opposite side of the hand to the Hegu acupuncture point, the Wai guan acupuncture point (SJ-5), and the Nei guan acupuncture point (PC-6).
