Laser-markable molding material (I) comprises at least partial-crystalline thermoplast (a) and an individual light sensitive salt-like compound or its mixture (b), which changes its color under the influence of laser light or leads to a color change in plastic and contains bivalent cation (tin), and optionally further conventional additives (c). Independent claims are also included for: (1) a method for the laser marking of thermoplastic shaped parts comprising preparing a shaped part of a molding material containing (a), (b) and optionally (c) and illuminating pre-determined parts at least one surface of the shaped part with laser light over in the illuminated places a change of the optical appearance; (2) a shaped part obtained by shaping of a laser-markable molding material; (3) laser-marked shaped part obtained by illuminating a shaped part from a laser-markable molding material with laser light; and (4) use of individual light sensitive salt-like compounds or their mixtures for the laser marking of shaped parts.
