<p>The invention relates to an arrangement (1) for a compression ignition engine (11) comprising one or more combustion spaces (12) defined by a piston (3) and the inner walls of a cylinder (4), the combustion space (12) being supplied with fuel when the piston is close to its upper dead-centre position and the volume of the combustion space (12) is at minimum or close to its minimum. In the invention, gas in the combustion space (12) is compressed by means of a piston (3) before fuel and/or oxygen necessary for combustion is introduced into the combustion space, so that the gas pressure generated in the combustion space (12) generates an adequate compression pressure for the fuel supplied into the combustion space under adequate pressure and/or for the oxygen necessary for combustion, while said compression pressure is such that the fuel introduced into the combustion space (12) has auto ignition. The oxygen introduced into the combustion space (12) and necessary for fuel combustion is derived from a tank (6; 6a), where it is maintained in a liquid state, and said gas is introduced into the combustion space under adequate pressure exceeding sufficiently the highest working pressure.</p> |
