PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fluorescent substance for vacuum ultraviolet-excited light-emitting diodes having high emission brightness. SOLUTION: This fluorescent substance for vacuum ultraviolet-excited light-emitting diodes comprises a compound expressed by the formula CaaSrbEu1-a-bMgSi2O6(wherein a is≥0.4 and≤0.7 and b is≥0.4 and≤0.7 and a+b is≤0.990).
