<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize density stabilization in color image formation without increasing the manufacturing cost of a photoreceptor drum. <P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus includes one photoreceptor drum, developing units for a plurality of colors, an intermediate transfer body, a primary transfer means from the photoreceptor drum to the intermediate transfer body, a secondary transfer means from the intermediate transfer body to a recording medium, a test patch forming means, a test patch reading means disposed opposite to the intermediate transfer body, a density adjusting means for adjusting image density according to the result of reading obtained by the reading means, a position detection means for the intermediate transfer body, a position detection means for the photoreceptor drum, and an offset means for the timing of reading the test patch.
