PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thickening formation method and apparatus by which an unintended swelling part is not formed inside the thick part of a disk-like base stock. SOLUTION: Since a projection fitting stage ( (c) in Figure ) where an annular projection 36b provided on the outer peripheral surface of a disk holding tool 18 is fit into a forming groove 64 is provided when performing thickening formation of the outer peripheral part of a disk-like base stock, the opening of the forming groove 64 is blocked with the annular projection 36b and the disk-like base stock by fitting the annular projection 36b into the forming groove 64 of a rotary roller 62 when the disk holding tool 18 and the rotary roller 62 are relatively made close to each other. Then, the flow of metal toward the outside of the forming groove 64 from the outer peripheral part of the disk-like base stock is blocked and the formation of the unintended swelling part in the inside of the thick part of the disk-like base stock is preferably dissolved.
