The chain drive for an engine with two cylinder banks (11) has a camshaft arrangement for each bank driven by a chain drive. The two cylinder banks are driven via a common chain drive with a single control chain (7) which drives the two cam shaft arrangements. Two drive wheels (2) are provided for the control chain. The drive wheels can be coupled to one another for example through interacting inclined toothed gearwheels.
