An image pickup device comprises a horizontal inversion unit (6) for horizontally inverting at least a third one of first to third pixel signals to be outputted from individual CCDs (2a to 2c) corresponding to RGB, and a CCD drive control unit (9) made so controllable as to add pixels in the horizontal direction individually by 2n+1 (n = 0, 1, 2, eee, and so on) to the first to third CCDs (2a to 2c). The CCD drive control unit (9) performs control to add the pixels from the timing, at which the second pixel signal is delayed by n pixels from the first pixel signal, and to add the pixels from the timing, at which the third pixel signal is delayed by the n pixels from the second pixel signal. The image pickup device can obtain an image of high sensitivity while suppressing the resolution degradation.
