PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing an alkylene carbonate by simple equipment attaining a high alkylene oxide conversion rate while minimizing unreacted raw materials and by-products and avoiding the possibility of explosion. SOLUTION: In the process for manufacturing the alkylene carbonate from the alkylene oxide and carbon dioxide in the presence of the catalyst, a. the amount of the aldehyde as the corresponding reaction by-product in the mixture at the reactor outlet is at most 1,000 ppm based on the alkylene carbonate in the reaction mixture; b. the amount of the glycol as the corresponding reaction by-product in the mixture at the reactor outlet is at most 1,000 ppm based on the alkylene carbonate in the reaction mixture; c. reaction by-products having a lower boiling point than the alkylene carbonate are caused to be absorbed in water; and d. a part or the whole of the reaction by-products having a higher boiling point than the alkylene carbonate is drawn out of the system and is burnt.
