PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electroluminescent (EL) element with improved brightness with light from a light-emitting layer (2) efficiently taken out toward an observation face side outside a surface substrate(9). SOLUTION: The EL element, provided with at least a light-emitting layer (5) between two opposing electrodes (2, 7), containing color conversion layers (13a, 13b, 13c) and the surface substrate (11) at a light-taking-out side, with the electrode (7) at the surface substrate side out of the two electrodes as a transparent electrode, is structured so that any air layer is not intercalated between the transparent electrode (7) and the surface substrate (11). For instance, a translucent resin protection layer (8) integrally molded so as to cover the transparent electrode (7) may be provided on the transparent layer (7), and liquid or hardening resin may be intercalated at an interface between the translucent resin protection layer (8) and the color conversion layers (13a, 13b, 13c) to form a sealing layer (9).
