PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a branching tool and a branching method for easily and safely branching an optical fiber and causing no damage to the branched optical fibers. SOLUTION: In the branching method for the optical fiber ribbon, a plurality of flexible members 20 are provided which come in contact at least with one side of the optical fiber ribbon in which a plurality of optical fibers 11a are integrated by a jacket 11b, and among the plurality of flexible members 20, a optical fiber ribbon 11 is branched using a branching tool 10A which is capable of storing more than one single core optical fiber 11a branched from the optical fiber ribbon 11, wherein the branched single core optical fiber 11a is moved among the plurality of flexible members 20.
