PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a process for preparing a toner for electrophotography with a small particle size and in a high yield without being limited by the kind of a binder resin, and to provide a toner for electrophotography obtained by the preparation process. SOLUTION: The process for preparing a toner for electrophotography comprising a binder resin and a colorant includes a step of preparing fine particles of the binder resin to have a volume-median particle size (D<SB>50</SB>) of from 0.05 to 3μm in an aqueous medium in the presence of a nonionic surfactant within a temperature range of from 10°C below to 10°C above a cloud point of the nonionic surfactant. The toner for electrophotography is obtained by the above process, wherein the toner contains≥60 wt.% of a crystalline polyester and has a volume-median particle size (D<SB>50</SB>) of from 1 to 7μm.
