PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make steering stability and steering feeling at the time of backward traveling compatible. SOLUTION: The electric steering device for a vehicle comprises a steering torque sensor 16 detecting steering input of a driver, a steering control device 20 calculating a target current of a steering assist force generating motor 10 on the basis of the steering input detected by at least the steering torque sensor 16, and a drive circuit 21 driving the motor 10 according to the target current calculated by the steering control device 20. A yaw rate correcting portion 34 at the time of backward traveling is provided, which changes steering assist force according to a yaw rate generated on a vehicle at the time of backward traveling of the vehicle.
