PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem wherein if the supply air pressure is high, when a piston is returned to an original position after the completion of screw fastening or nail driving, the reaction of the collision of the piston with a body becomes large because the pressure of the compressed air supplied from a return air chamber to the lower portion of the piston is high, and the operability of a machine becomes worse. SOLUTION: After the completion of the screw fastening or the nail driving, the pressure of the compressed air in the return air chamber 20 to be supplied to the lower portion of the piston 21 is limited to a required pressure. As a result, the pressure applied to the lower portion of the piston 21 becomes low even when the supply air pressure is high, the reaction at the return of the piston 21 is reduced, and the operability of the machine is improved.
