PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To properly assign a memory area according to a state of a disk array device to effectively practically use a mounted memory. SOLUTION: Management and control information of this disk array device 1B is stored in the large-capacity memory 33B mounted in a controller module 30B controlling the whole device of the disk array device 1B having a plurality of hard disk units 70 in addition to a system area 101 managed by an OS and a cache area 103 as a cache memory, a table area 102 having area size changeable at an arbitrary time point is provided, the table area is changed by activity according to the state of the device without turning on/off a power source, an unused area of the table area is released to allow use as the cache area, and the table area and the cache area are appropriately increased or reduced by the activity during operation to effectively practically use the large-capacity memory.
