<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable a plurality of users to handle a file such as a document file in such a way that each user can return to and edit the final version of the file that he or she has corrected, even if the file has been corrected by other users without permission. <P>SOLUTION: A user-identification header DH indicating the ownership of a file and a final-editor bit LB indicating the final user to edit the file are associated with the file. The file is stored in such a way that if the user is the final editor, the file is overwritten and saved, whereas if the user is not the final editor, the file is saved with a different name.
