PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnet holding member 16 wherein a risk of damage can be reduced with no cost increase when a permanent magnet 15 is held between pawl-like magnetic poles 13 using the magnet holding member 16 in an electric rotating machine for vehicle. SOLUTION: The magnet holding member 16 comprises two side portions 27 covering two side faces 25 of a permanent magnet 15 in the circumferential direction, and both side bridge portions 28 for bridging the two side portions 27 while covering the outer circumferential surface 26 wherein the two side portions 27 have rigidity lower than that at the both side bridge portions 28. Since the magnet holding member 16 can be formed into a substantially U-shape, the amount of material used can be reduced. Since the two side portions 27 have rigidity lower than that at the both side bridge portions 28 in the magnet holding member 16, a planar material can be formed into a substantially U-shape easily and a risk of damage on the magnet holding member 16 can be reduced with no cost increase.
