The drive train has an internal combustion engine (1) with freely controllable valve drive variation, an electrical machine (2) permanently coupled to the engine, an automated, load-switched gearbox (3) permanently coupled to the electrical machine, several auxiliary units (9,10,14) and a valve control unit (11) for initiating and controlling the expansion and compression operations of the engine, whereby the supply of the auxiliary units during expansion is carried out by the electrical machine.
