PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a process unit capable of suppressing uneven electrification in electrifying a photoreceptor 2 by the discharge from a discharge member 13 moving on a surface while placing the discharge member 13 in opposition to the photoreceptor 2 with leaving a prescribed electrification gap. SOLUTION: The electrifying apparatus electrifies the photoreceptor 2 placed in opposition to the discharge member 13 with leaving the prescribed electrification gap by the discharge from the discharge member 13 for an electrifying roller 10 having a metal shaft member 11 and the discharge member 13 fixed over the whole circumference of the member 11 in the rotating direction. In placing a metal body whose metal material quality, size and shape are the same as those of the metal substrate of the photoreceptor 2 in opposition to the discharge member 13 with leaving the prescribed electrification gap in place of the photoreceptor 2, a value obtained by dividing a capacitance [pF] between the shaft member 11 and the aforesaid metal body by a length [mm] of the discharge member 13 in a direction orthogonal to the surface movement direction of the discharge member 13 is set so as to be≥0.35 [pF/mm].
