PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of storing books in containers capable of suppressing the occurrence of dead spaces in a book vault by using the containers of a common size and facilitating the removal of books from the inside of the containers in a taking in and out station. SOLUTION: In this method of storing the books 16 in the containers 8 in an automatic book vault system 1, the containers 8 can store the books 16a, 16b, and 16c of multiple sizes, the size of the containers used is single, and when the books 16a, 16b, and 16c are laterally stored in the containers 8 in multiple rows, the height of the rows of the books 16a, 16b, and 16c is differentiated from the height of at least one of the adjacent rows of the books so that the scroops 16aa, 16ba, and 16ca of the books 16a, 16b, and 16c of multiple rows are visible for each row.
