PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for operating a coke oven, by which a coke extrusion trouble caused by a coke extrusion overload can be prevented to stably supply the coke to a blast furnace. SOLUTION: This method for operating the coke oven is characterized by detecting coke extrusion loads applied to an extrusion beam over the whole section on the coke extrusion, determining the peak value of the coke extrusion loads on the extrusion of the coke from the oven from the detection values, judging a dangerous state, when the fluctuation band of the peak value on the extrusion of the coke from the oven is larger than a preliminarily set fluctuation band, and preliminarily scheduling a period for dropping carbon from the oven wall surface of a carbonizing chamber or for repairing the oven wall bricks of the carbonizing chamber.
