PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a monofunctional monomer which has a cage-like oligosiloxane structure and has improved compatibility with solvents and other polymerizable monomers, and to provide a method for producing the monofunctional monomer, by which the monofunctional monomer can be obtained at one step in a high purity and in a high yield. SOLUTION: This monofunctional monomer having a cage-like oligosiloxane structure represented by the general formula (1) (X is an oxygen atom-containing 1 to 40C polymerizable group; R<SP>1</SP>groups are each identically or differently a group selected from 1 to 20C saturated hydrocarbon groups, 6 to 20C aromatic hydrocarbon groups, 1 to 20C organoxy groups, and halogen atoms; R group is a 1 to 40C non-polymerizable monovalent hydrocarbon group which may be substituted with one or more halogen atoms, and R groups bound to an identical silicon atom may be each identical or different).
